Long Duration Energy Storage

Long-duration energy storage (LDES) refers to systems that can store electricity for 10 or more hours, and are crucial for balancing the grid by storing excess renewable energy to be used when needed. Key technologies include pumped hydro, hydrogen, flow batteries, and various other battery and thermal storage systems, enabling greater integration of renewable sources like wind and solar. LDES is essential for grid reliability, decarbonization, and ensuring a stable, affordable power supply.

Liquid Natural Gas to Power (LNG)

This method of power generation relies on a constant source of LNG, while the product has to be re-gasified before being used to generate steam.

There are several methods of delivery  – closed cycle or open cycle gas turbines, and the simple use of engines – to deliver power quickly on demand.

Solar & Wind Power

Solar and wind power are renewable energy sources that convert either sunlight or wind into electricity. Both are clean alternatives to fossil fuels, but their practical application depends on factors like location – with solar being more practical for individual homes, and wind power being more efficient in locations where  consistent wind is prevalent. 

Concentrated Solar Power (CSP)

Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) is a method of producing power by concentrating the sun’s rays onto a tower or a parabolic mirror to heat a delivery medium such as molten salt or certain types of oil. This medium is used to store the heat used to generate steam when the power is needed; thus, it can deliver power during peak periods and not just when the sun is shining.

Hydroelectric Power

This type of power is a clean and environmentally friendly method of generation. Little needs to be said about this type of generation – except that it requires a reliable water source, and could involve the construction of water-retaining structures and access roads. However, once constructed, hydro-electric power does not have the limited life span of other types of generation.

Biomassa para Energia (Pirólise)

Atualmente, a maior parte dos resíduos, tanto domésticos como industriais, é enviada para aterros sanitários, que são antiestéticos e insalubres. Foi desenvolvido um sistema denominado “pirólise” para converter resíduos de todos os tipos, incluindo esgotos, em geração de energia ou produzir combustíveis sintéticos úteis, dependendo do nível de extração do produto final. Os resíduos passam por uma autoclave, que higieniza o produto. Em seguida, podem ser separados manualmente ou por máquinas. Qualquer material resultante é inerte e pode ser utilizado, por exemplo, como aterro para estradas.
